Welcome to Bishop Auckland! Known as the gateway to Weardale, Bishop (as it’s known to the locals) is a bustling market town with ample history and charm throughout. The market place offers a beautiful setting for Auckland Castle, home of the Prince Bishops for over 900 years, and surrounded by the idyllic Deer Park – perfect for walking the dog! Bishop Auckland Town Hall offers a useful library, superb theatre and arts complex. It is also arguably one of the attractive buildings in the town, often being the backdrop for many local events.
The annual Bishop Auckland Food Festival has taken off over recent years, attracting interest from visitors near and far. It’s well worth a visit, growing year on year, there’s always something new to see! From street entertainment to celebrity chefs, make sure you arrive hungry!
Over the last few years the town has really felt a boost from the outdoor live action spectacular, Kynren – An Epic Tale of England. During the summer months thousands of people experience 2,000 years of history, legend and myth in this outstanding show suited to all generations.
If retail therapy is more your thing, the town offers a variety of shops ranging from speciality boutiques to supermarkets. And when out and about, why not pop into our office and say hello? Our friendly team are always on hand to offer help and advice (or even a cup of tea!), and you can find a bit more about us all below.
Sue Stephenson is our Area Manager, working between Bishop Auckland and Darlington offices. Sue has a wealth of invaluable experience stretching over 25 years and relating to all aspects of the housing market, from estate agency to new build. Her membership of the National Association of Estate Agents also ensures a trusted knowledge of the changing trends in the property industry. She began working for JW Wood back in 2004 as a Valuer for Darlington office and in early 2005 took the role as Manager for Bishop Auckland. In more recent years Sue became Area Manager for the two offices allowing both to go from strength to strength. Sue lives in a village on the outskirts of Darlington with her husband, Gary, who is the Manager at Darlington office.
Manager and valuer at the Bishop Auckland office is Martyn Hunter, who is vastly experienced in all aspects of property and is our Land and New Homes specialist. He lives in Spennymoor, so knows this area very well.
Amanda Dowson, Elizabeth Taylor and Barbara Smith are our Property Consultants. Having both lived in Bishop Auckland all their lives and therefore gaining an excellent knowledge of the local area, they are here to help with all of your property needs and queries!
JW Wood were recently named the Best North East Agent for a fifth time at the 2021 Relocation Agent Network awards.
