I wanted to sell my parents house as dad had gone into long term care. Given I live 300 miles from the property I needed someone who could manage all aspects of the sale. I invited 4 agents to view the property and decided to instruct J.W. Wood. I'm not sure what it was that decided who I would use as all were excellent but I did not regret my decision for an instant. Ann was my sales agent and the level of communication was above expectation. They handled all enquiries, arranged viewings, negotiated offers and within 2 months had secured a sale (STC) at the asking price. They also offer a low cost conveyancing service via a local solicitor which is another benefit given my location. I can't recommend J.W. Wood, and particularly Ann, highly enough, the whole experience has been stress free. Thank you.

I have used this company recently to sell my mother's house following her death in February 2025. They were a familiar name as my wife and I had used them during the purchase and sale of properties in the early years of our marriage back in the late 1970's when we still lived in Durham. The sale of this home, after 64 years of occupation, pretty much 'bookends' my life. They have been a pleasure to deal with from initial contact and valuation with Jonathan through to sale (subject to contract). I would just like to note how helpful the staff at the Durham branch have been this week, in particular Nicky Hall, who is one of their Property Consultants. I rang to make an appointment to view a house and Nicky set it up quickly, confirming the appointment, as well as sharing her direct contact details, should I encounter any problems. Nicky also took the time to understand what sort of property we were looking for and flagged other houses which met our criteria. Having dealt with several big name agents over the last week, I was extremely impressed by JWW. Not one of the other agents I have dealt with (except for those I listed my house with) have provided anywhere near the same level of customer service. In fact, I have found other agents to be very poor... Not answering or returning calls, unhelpful, no interest in matching us to other properties, and in some cases, rude. Furthermore, we stumbled across a vacant property which is being shown by JWW. We had a real urgency to view it this week (as need to move quickly), but they were fully booked. Nicky understood our situation and enlisted the help of Sarah (who I think works in the same branch), but who does not normally show properties. Sarah met us there on her way home from work, just so we didn't miss out - so a big thank you to to Sarah too. We have just submitted an offer (by email), and look forward to hearing back from the team. I will certainly leave another review once the process is complete, to give a summary of our overall experience. So far, JWW have made a great first impression!

Another great marketing and sales experience from the team at JW Wood. My mother has used them over the years and they have always been excellent. They seem to have a better pool of buyers and the house was sold in a couple of weeks which was amazing. There is a downside, we used their conveyancing services which were terrible and very stressful to deal with. They were so slow that we ended up being stung for SDLT, communication was none existent too. I had to source seperate independent additional legal advice which cost us as they were getting things wrong with one thing and another. They're not directly part of JW Wood and therefore the above is not a reflection on JW Wood whose aftersales team were as frustrated as we were. A big thank you to Kelly in JW Wood aftersales for helping us sort out the conveyancers, you were superb! Thank you. So a massive thank you to Geoff, Sarah, Julie and team JW Wood. Would recommend Woods in Consett as they did a great job for me. Unfortunately the same can't be said for the conveyancing solicitor they recommended. They were very difficult to get a response from "have more that 120 cases so will call you back" no returned call also didn't reply to e-mails. They were also working to a different completion date to that agreed with the sellers solicitors.

The valuer arrived on time and he had already prepared a comprehensive dossier on the housing market in our locality. We discussed the proposed sale in a friendly and open manner and came to a valuation which was both realistic and acceptable to us. We agreed a marketing strategy and all costs were clearly and accurately explained. Photographs of the house were taken immediately. The valuer promptly emailed us the contract and the forms that we needed to complete and sign. He responded very quickly to our emails regarding this early process. The house was assessed for an Energy Performance Certificate within the timelines agreed and the house was then promptly advertised on Rightmove. We were notified of the name of the member of staff who would be particularly handling the sale although all of the staff took an interest in the sale and were available to assist me whenever i contacted the office by telephone. They responded promptly to all email communication. Within only a few days there were viewings arranged indicating to me that the house had been advertised at an attractive price to potential buyers. I was provided with the time and dates and names of all the viewers (both the ones that I was supervising and the ones that I was not). I supervised some of the viewings and JW Wood supervised the others. JW Wood always secured the house after they conducted any viewing and the house was always left in a clean condition. When offers were received we were advised of the amount offered and the immediate prospects of the intending buyer being able to proceed to completion. We were given time to consider the offers and were able to discuss market conditions and review our marketing strategy. Once we had received a number of offers within the time that we had chosen to allow for offers, we were satisfied that the highest bidder both met our expectations in relation to the price offered and the realistic prospect that they were able to complete the purchase within a reasonable time. We agreed a sale. I was then regularly updated with progress reports by both telephone and email. Throughout the process I was pleased with the professional and friendly communication that I had with every member of JW Wood staff that I spoke with. They gave me their information and advice and listened to my opinion and my requirements. The communication was helpful. I was able to decide what I wanted to do at every stage. The sale was completed in just over 4 months from the initial valuation meeting. I was satisfied with the number of viewings arranged and pleased to have been introduced to a reliable buyer who could proceed promptly. I have no hesitation in recommending JW Wood of Durham based on the service that I received.

Edit May 22 - We have just completed - delays in no way due to JW Wood. I must say the aftersales care provided - in particular by Amanda Killops. I work in the service industry and the service provided by Amanda has been second to none. Regular, friendly updates and kept all parties in the loop during the delays so no one became overly frustrated and she ensured things kept moving along so the transaction could be completed asap. An infinitely better service than that provided by our conveyancer. Would recommend in an instant. Thanks again Amanda! First time buying a house in nearly 20 years. The team at JW Wood provided regular updates and were available on the telephone when required which made this unfamiliar process less traumatic than I had envisaged! I can strongly recommend J W Wood who have provided an excellent service throughout the sale of our house. As we have been away from the property during the process it was particularly important to select an agency who could manage things for us from ‘soup to nuts’ and it has been a real pleasure to deal with Ann and her colleagues.
