JW Wood sponsored Durham Women FC delivered a pre-match tournament before a recent home game - with JW Wood Training Wear the prize for the winners.
The Durham Women FC Spring Series FC Cup was held before the Wildcats' final FA Women's Super League Spring Series home match against London Bees on April 30, and proved a great success.
Eight local teams came down and competed in two age groups. Those in attendance were: Felling Magpies U10 Blacks, Felling Magpies U10 Whites, Middleton Rangers U10, Newcastle Benfield U10, Middleton Rangers U12, Consett Candies U12, Washington AFC Wildcats U12 and Washington AFC Tigers U12.
The teams played each other once in a fun and competitive environment, and were even treated to some of Durham Women's FA WSL players, including captain Sarah Wilson and England international goalkeeper Rachael Laws, watching their games.
Over 80 girls took part in the tournament, with a strong following of parents and family members meaning over 200 people were in attendance at the tournament before staying on to watch Durham beat London Bees 3-0 to remain at the top of FA WSL 2.
All eight teams were awarded with five Hummel match balls to reward their performance in the tournament, while the winners in each age group were given brand new Hummel training wear, sponsored by JW Wood Estate Agents.
Felling Magpies U10 Blacks won the U10 age group, while Consett Candies won the U12 division. Both teams were presented with their training wear by Durham Women FC players Nat Gutteridge and Grace McCatty alongside JW Wood Estate Agents' Durham Sales Manager, Jonathan Wheeler.
The young players were also able to quiz McCatty and Gutteridge on their careers as footballers - a valuable insight for the future.
Commenting on the tournament, Durham Women FC Marketing Officer, Mark Donnelly, said: \"It was fantastic to see so many girls playing football at this tournament.
\"I would like to thank all the teams for coming down in such large numbers and making it a very enjoyable morning.
\"We were delighted to be able to reward the teams with match balls and, in the case of the winners, some new training kit and our thanks go to Hummel UK & Ireland for their help in providing that and for JW Wood Estate Agents for sponsoring the kits and for coming down to present them.
\"Our partnership with JW Wood is ever-growing and we're delivering more exciting projects with them in the local community in the near future, which is great for both the club and them.\"
