Signing of Northern Ireland international defender Julie Nelson

Durham WFC are delighted to announce the signing of Northern Ireland international defender Julie Nelson, pending international clearance.

Nelson is the club’s third addition to the squad following the arrivals of Amelia Pereira and Becky Beech.

The 29-year-old, who has over 60 caps for her country, arrives from Scottish side Glasgow City, where she played a part in successive SWPL title wins and also featured in the Champions League during her spell north of the border.

The experienced centre-half lists fellow WSL2 side Everton among her former clubs and also played professionally with Icelandic outfit IBV.

Manager Lee Sanders said: “We’re very pleased to get Julie on board. She comes with a wealth of experience and adds even more quality to an already good defensive unit.

“She is composed on the ball, has experience of playing top-level football and I’m sure she will have a positive effect on the squad.”

Nelson will be eligible to play once her international transfer certificate has been received.
