Durham’s Magna Carta goes on public display
A unique 1216 edition of the Magna Carta has gone on display in the North-East for the first time in its 799 year history. Visitors to Durham City are now able to view the only surviving 1216 issue of the charter at the university’s Palace Green Library.

Sterling Developments propose to alter the ground floor from three shop units to create nine shop units, while the first floor of the building will be converted from a commercial space to 11 residential dwellings of varying sizes.

Developers are seeking consent to demolish a landmark 1960s tower block in the first phase of flagship £150m regeneration scheme. Multinational giant Carillion has applied for planning permission to knock down Milburngate House to make space for the redevelopment of the crucial Framwelgate Waterside site, next to the River Wear in Durham city centre.
